DIARY OF JOSEPH ALMOND 1871
Jan. 11, 1871 Yesterday morning, Sam West was arrested on the Mail boat, charged with robbing the safe in Post Office at this Place. Yesterday evening, I rented the “Chapman†Warehouse for a Work Shop. This morning, moved my bench over and brought 411 ft. White pine from Mitchel & Evans. Commenced fitting up a Drug Store in the Holthaus building. Peter Baldischweler commenced with me for the drug store this evening.
Jan. 12, 13 & 14th Peter and myself worked at drug store. Intended going to Rockport by mail boat this morning but the mail boat did not arrive here until this evening. So did not go.
Jan. 17 Started for Rockport on the Mail boat. Arrived there about seven o’clock in the evening. Next day, arranged for Lumber & Shingles for Capt. Kenedy and got home by Mail Boat about seven o’clock in the evening.
