    Willie Avery

Willie Avery, a colored boy aged about twelve years, son of Jesse Avery, met with a serious accident Tuesday evening about 6 o’clock a couple of miles west of town near Nueces bay.  It is said he was out with another boy hunting when his gun dropped down into the bottom of the vehicle in front of him and was about to fall out when Willie caught it; that in pulling it up, the mouth of he barrel towards him, the gun was discharged, the contents lodging in the boy’s right shoulder.  At last accounts the boy was in a very bad condition.
