NO HEADSTONE

Speculation

There is no stone marking this grave so it is not possible to guess as to the age of the person. The only reference to her burial in Old Bayview is found in the burial records of the Episcopalian church of the Good Shepherd. Records there report that she died on 8 February 1915 and was buried on the 10th. The record indicates that she was baptized, but not a confirmed communicant. Presumably she or her relatives are Episcopalian and had some connection to that parish. However, she is not listed among those who died in Corpus Christi in February of 1915 as reported in the Caller and Daily Herald of March 2, 1915 (page 8 col. 4) so she may not have been from the city or even the county itself, but was brought to Good Shepherd for the funeral and subsequent burial. It may also be that this is an infant or small child (because of the notations regarding her church status). The only Bates listed in the Corpus Christi city directory of 1914 include William L. Bates and Miss Maude Bates who live on Waco Street at the corner of McKenzie. However, there are no names of relatives given in the death and burial recorded at Good Shepherd Church so she cannot be conclusively connected with this family or others in such neighboring towns as Alice where there are also Bates living.
