Speculation

There is no stone to mark this grave and indicate full name , correct spelling, or dates of birth and death. Unfortunately the only reference is in the interment records of the Bayview Association. This record only indicates that this is a male (as his nearest of kin is “wifeâ€) and that the death occurred in 1908. No extant papers from 1908 have been found that list a “R. Bedloeâ€. There is indication of an officer Bedloe who was killed in a shootout, but articles on him report that he was buried out of town, not in Corpus Christi. There is the possibility that this is the husband of Myrtle Cayce whose ancestor, John M. Cayce, is buried in Old Bayview. However, this would mean that her husband’s name has been misspelled. His proper name is “Ralph Bledsoeâ€. The couple kept their ties to Corpus Christi because of her family while they lived primarily in the Floresville area. Their son Ralph Bledsoe Jr. also had his marriage shower in Corpus Christi at the home of Miss Bertha Ann Herold (Caller-Times of 21 Feb. 1937 page 4B, col. 7). Ralph Philip Bledsoe was born about 1885 and married Myrtle 16 December 1906 in Nueces County (Texas Sun of 21 December 1906 page 3 col. 4). Unfortunately the identity of the person listed as “R. Bedloe†in the Bayview Association records cannot at present be conclusively confirmed.
