    John Boerum

    J. J. Boerum, popular Jack, left here Monday for Gainsville to attend the State Convention of Volunteer Firemen.  Mr. Boerum goes as a delegate from the Corpus Christi Fire Department which he has represented in even annual convention save one for the past thirty-five years.  The time he failed was while he was laid up as a result of a railroad accident.  Mr. Boerum is Chief of the Alice Fire Department but has never severed his connection with the fire boys of the Bluff City.

    J. J. Boerum returned Sunday last from his trip to Temple where he attended the meeting of the State Volunteer Firemen as a delegate from Corpus Christi.  Mr. Boerum (Uncle Jack) has been a delegate to these annual meeting, for 23 consecutive years with the exception of one year only.  Mr. Boerum is an enthusiastic and inspiring character among the fireboys of Corpus and Alice.

    John Boerum, the paper hanger, painter and telephone repairer, etc., is papering the residence of Frank Ayers.  He lately finished papering W. E. Caldwell’s office.

    John Boerum

    John Boerum Dies Here at Home of Son

    John J. Boerum, 79 years old and a pioneer resident of South Texas, died at 6 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the home of his son, R. M. Boerum, 1209 Tenth street.  His death followed a long illness.  Mr. Boermum having been in very poor health for the past several years.

    Mr. Boerum came to Corpus Christi in 1870, taking a position with the firm of Doddridge, Lott & Co., which was then located at Lawrence and Chaparral streets.  Later he moved to Alice where he took charge of the Sidbury lumber yard.  When the company was dissolved he represented the Waters Pierce Oil. Co., remaining at Alice until 1921, when he returned to Corpus Christi to make his home with his son.

    He was married in 1879 to Miss Jessie McComb.  Mrs. Boerum died on June 20, 1890.  Two sons survive hi. John A. and R. M. Boerum, both of this city.  Four grandchildren also survive him.

    Services will be held at 3:30 o’clock this afternoon at the residence, conducted by the Rev. K. C. Minter, pastor of the South bluff Methodist church.  Burial will be in Old Bayview cemetery.

    Active pallbearers will be Ed Shoemaker, E. J. Miller, K. C. Fawcus, Felix Hobbs, Sr., and Jonas Weil.

    Mr. Boerum was a charter member of the volunteer hook and ladder company of Corpus Christi and was active in that organization for many years, helping to fight many conflagrations in the early days of this city. For years he represented the fire company pat the various state firemen’s conventions and was a prominent figure at the sessions.
