Obituary

Dr. T. S. Burke

Died, in this city, September 21st, 1891, at 2:15 a.m., Dr. T. Somervell Burke, aged 55 years, 4 months and 20 days.

Dr. Burke, was a native of Mississippi and well known in Corpus Christi where he has resided for many years past.  For a long period he had charge of the quarantine station at Aransas Pass, where he made an efficient officer.  He was buried from the Episcopal church Monday afternoon under the auspices of the Knights of Honor, his mortal remains being followed to their last resting place in the city cemetery by hosts of friends. Here the last sad rites were performed.

His funeral cortege was one of the largest ever seen in Corpus Christi.  The Knights of Honor of which he was a charter member, had the funeral ceremony in charge and acquitted themselves well, doing everything that could possibly be done to add to the impressiveness of the occasion. The entire community mourns his loss and extends to his bereaved family their heartfelt sympathy in this heir hour of distress.  The business houses throughout the city closed, out of respect for the dead during the funeral hours.
