    MRS. MARIA A. VON BLUCHER

    After a month’s illness she passes peacefully from earth. It is with genuine sorrow that THE CALLER is called on this morning to note the passing of Mrs. Maria Augusta von Blucher which occurred at her home in this city yesterday afternoon at 2:45 o’clock. About a month ago Mrs. Blucher was taken ill ___________ grown weaker until, at last, death came to her relief __________. Her death was as peaceful __________ she seemed only to have dropped into a gentle slumber so quiet was the end.

    Mrs. Blucher was 68 years and 3 days old at the time of her death and was a native of Berlin, Prussia. She came to Corpus Christi as the bride in 1849, her husband, Felix A. von Blucher, being for many years afterward surveyor of Nueces county. Mr. Blucher first came to Texas with Prince Saim, the founder of New Bruanfels, served valiantly in the Mexican army under Gen. Taylor and after peace was declared with Mexico returned to Berlin after his bride. Mrs. Blucher was a lady of rare musical talent and taught music up to the time she was taken ill. It was claimed for her just before she died and she had educated more pupils in music than any other music teacher in the state.

    Mrs. Blucher was a widow at the time of her death, her husband having preceded her to the grave several years ago. Five children survive her, Mrs. Chas. Blucher, our present county surveyor, Mr. Richard Blucher, who resides in a western county and Mr. Geo. Blucher, Mrs. Jas. Downing and Miss Julia Blucher of this city. Mrs. Blucher was a woman of many noble traits of character and was always a friend to the distressed and needy. A residence of 44 years in Corpus Christi had made her one of our oldest pioneers, and by her death another link in the chain which bound the Corpus of the past to the Corpus of the present is broken. Her funeral will take place from the family residence this evening at 4 o’clock and all friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend.
