Bay View Cemetery Map, ca 1940
NO HEADSTONE
This burial listing of “A. Dix†appears to refer to Arthur Dix who has other family members buried in Old Bayview Cemetery. However, the reference is from a map of the cemetery that dates to circa 1940 and may only indicate that Arthur Dix had a space reserved for him with the Dix family members. There is no head stone for him while all of the other Dix family members known to be buried in the cemetery do have a grave marker. This may mean that he had the space but never actually used it because the family moved away. Arthur is the son of Theodore S. Dix and Kate Farrel. Buried in this plot are also Arthur’s brothers, Theodore F. Dix and John W. Dix. Arthur J. Dix was born in June of 1869 according to the 1900 federal census of Nueces County (E.D. 130, sheet 5). He is listed in that census with wife Leliah (born Nov. 1874 in Mississippi) and son Arthur (born November 1898 in Texas). There is also the possibility that the child Arthur Dix (son of Arthur and Leliah/Lillie E.) died young and was buried in the family plot. At any rate the family moved away from the Corpus Christi area along with Arthur’s sister (Clara) and brother (Charles). Deed records from Nueces County that deal with property sales and lien payments (see Vol. 10 page 108, Vol. 11 page 392 and 569) indicate that by 1903 Arthur J. Dix was a resident of Bexar County, Texas. His sister, Clara M. Johns nee Dix, was now single and living with her children in Arapahoe County, Colorado. Arthur’s brother Charles is a resident of McLennan County, Texas.
