1. Obituary

Aseneath Thomas-Downs, daughter of Isom H. Thomas and Martha E. Lee Sims, was born November 19 in the late 1860s while her family resided in south Texas where her father worked on the Laureles Ranch.

She met and married Alexander Stephen Downs (died August 2, 1922 and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery). She lived primarily in Robstown and Corpus Christi until old age necessitated her move to the Kerrville State Home where she died December 26, 1958.

Her son Alexander Downs, deputy sheriff of Nueces County, was killed while monitoring a dance in Robstown at which a fight broke out that left two dead and two wounded

(see Corpus Christi Caller-Times, Oct. 17, 1932 p. 1).

At the time of Aseneath’s death, she was reportedly survived by children Rose Walshe of Kingsville, Virginia Gross of Alice, Terry and Claude and Bob of Robstown, and Clarence of Gary, Indiana as well as 19 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren.

(see Corpus Christi Caller-Times, 12-28-1958 for obituary as well as Robstown Record and Corpus Christi Cathedral Death Records Book 4 p. 37).
