DIED -- KILLMER --- At Penitas, Nueces county Texas at 9 p.m., April 14th, 1893, Ellen, wife of Ed. Killmer, a native of Corpus Christi, aged 39 years, 11 months, and 26 days.

Mrs. Killmer was stricken with fever and congestion of the brain about a week previous to her death, and during the short spell of sickness she was hardly conscious at any time. Everything possible that loving hands could do to relieve her suffering was done, but all in vain. Daily bulletins were received by anxious relatives in this city, the last telegram Saturday morning announcing her sad death. At half past two o’clock Saturday afternoon her remains were brought to Corpus by special train over the Aransas Pass road, accompanied by the bereaved husband and his two older children, deceased’s two brothers, Messrs. Wm. And Robt. Adams, their sister, Mrs. Hinnant, and Messrs. T. C. Wright, George Reynolds, G. H. Reynolds and Miss M. Reynolds. From the depot, where friends and relatives had assembled the remains were taken to the Episcopal church and services held by Rev. Dr. Clark, the funeral procession proceeding from the church at 3:30 o’clock.

Mrs. Killmer leaves, besides a bereaved husband, three children, namely Callie, aged 14 years; Robert, age 4 years and a baby girl aged three months.

The sad death of this affectionate wife and loving mother has cast a gloom over the settlements of Driscoll, Penitas and Lagarto, where she was so well known. To the afflicted family, many friends in Corpus Christi as well as the country, extend their heartfelt sympathy.

5.  Biographical information

Born:               18 April 1853               Nuecestown, TX.

Died:               14 April 1893               Live Oak Co., TX.

Buried:             Bayview Cemetery, Corpus Christi, TX.

Ellen Adams was born to Robert and Sarah Anderson Adams shortly after the family emigrated to the United States from England.  She was one of 7 children.  About 1861 her mother died.  A few years later her and youngest brother went to England on a visit and on their return voyage they were lost at sea.  Ellen probably lived with her sister and brother-in-law, Tom and Elizabeth Wright, on their ranch near Alfred, TX.

Ellen married Ed Killmer at the Tom Wright ranch when she was 24.  They lived in Casa Blanca for awhile and then bought a ranch on Barbon Creek near Lagarta.  Ed and Ellen had 5 children.  Two of them died quite young and are buried in Bayview Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Tx.

Ellen’s granddaughter, Nettie Hobbs Givens, says that in her late 30's a rooster spurred her face.  The spot became malignant and was removed without anesthetic.  She had severe headaches and was told by her doctor never to take a certain medicine.  A doctor other than the family doctor gave her this medicine and she lapsed into a coma and died just before her 40th birthday.

Ellen Killmer was almost 6 feet tall and very strong.
