Biography

This young boy of only nine years of age was the son of Joseph Henry Langridge and Jennie Harrison.  His father was a native of Cincinnati, Ohio who began work as a printer at the age of 14 years old when he was apprenticed to George D. Prentiss at the Courier-Journal in Louisville, Kentucky.  Joseph H. Langridge later moved to Texas where he worked for newspapers in Waco, Rockport, San Antonio, Ft. Worth, Dallas, and Corpus Christi.  Little Arthur was born in San Antonio in the year (1895) that his father founded "The Dispatch", the paper that supported the agenda of the union in San Antonio.  Arthur's mother, Jennie, was the daughter of Col. Harrison (who also was buried in Old Bayview about 1877, but was exhumed in October of 1906—see "Caller" article of October 12, 1906, page 6 and col. 6).  Jennie married Joseph Henry Langridge while he was working for the "Transcript" of Rockport, Texas.   After the death of her son Arthur in 1904 and her husband Joseph Henry in 1906, Jennie subsequently married a Mr. Sterry in 1911 and moved out of the Nueces County area.
