Obituary

We regret to learn of the death of Tom McComb's infant son, which occurred on last Sunday.

Biographical information on family

This young child is the son of Thomas McComb and Ellen/ Ella Allen who married in Nueces co. On June 20, 1878.  The child’s mother was the daughter of Alonzo Allen and Annie O’Neal.  She was born June 21, 1862 on Mesquite St. in Corpus, Christi, Texas.  Besides this young child, Ella also had another child who died young and two other sons, Mr. Sam McComb and Mr. Robert McComb the two daughters who survived her:  Daisy (M. D. Floyd) and Lily (William M. Peachem). Thomas McComb, the father of the child, was the son of Samuel McComb (also buried in Old Bayview) and Annie McComb nee Reid (also buried in Old Bayview), sister of mayor Dan Reid.  Thomas and Ella divorced and both subsequently remarried.  At the time of her death, on Dec. 16, 1918, Ella was Mrs. John K. Willis and was residing at 1718 Comanche St.  Her children by Mr. Willis are David Willis, Mrs. George A. Altgett, Bryan Willis, Nellie Willis, Grace Willis, Mary Willis, Johnny Willis, and Erskine Willis.  Tom McComb also remarried and at the time of his death on Nov. 1, 1920 he was living at 313 Oxford St. in Houston. Robert McComb who also survived, him was prominent in politics and served as mayor of Laredo.  He was also survived by his one sister, Mrs. Ellsworth, of San Antonio.

Mrs. John K. Willis was born June 21, 1862 on Mesquite Street, Corpus Christi, Texas, died Dec. 16 at 1:30 p.m. 1918, at 1718 Comanche St., where she lived for the past 3 years.  She was the mother of 14 children. She married Mr. Thomas McComb, by him she had 6 children, 2 being dead, the surviving ones are all grown and have families; they are Mrs. M. D. Floyd, Rio Grande city, Texas; Mrs. Wm. Pecham, Urchutas, Kan.; Mr. Sam McComb, city; Mr. Robert McComb, city.  She married again to Mr. John K. Willis, and is survived by him and their children who are David. Willis, city; Mrs. Geo. A. Altgett, Bandera; Bryan Willis, Washington, D. C.; Nellie Willis, city; Grace Willis, city; Mary Willis, Johnnie Willis and Erskine Willis also a niece, Amelia Moreland, who lives with the family of Brooklyn N. Y.  Also one brother, Mr. Albert Allen, Eagle Pass, Texas and quite a few grand children and a host of friends to mourn her death.

She lingered for 2 years, and while it was expected still her death is a shock to all.  But, she is now at rest and out of her troubles.  Mother Willis was a true noble mother, devoted to her family and friends.  All that know her love her.  She will be remembered by all the old timers of Corpus Christi as a loving friend to humanity, and her deeds will live after her.  God knew best and called her home.  Mother Willis was a staunch Presbyterian and lived up to her faith in practice and deeds and we feel now she is at rest.

We want to thank each and every one that helped during her illness especially Mrs. Homer Womack and daughter, Mrs. Cecil Ferrel, and Miss Ella Stephenson.

Father of Infant Son McComb

Funeral services for Thomas McComb, aged 63 years, who died Sunday, will be held at the residence, 313 Oxford Street, at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Rev. T. J. Windham officiating.  Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.  Mr. McComb is survived by a wife, two sons, and two daughters, one stepson, two stepdaughters, one sister, and one brother.  He was prominent in the activities of the WOW as a member of Red Oak Camp No. 95.
