Mr. Ben C. Mew has just returned to Corpus Christi after a three-year’s stay in Arizona and New Mexico.  He expressed himself as being greatly surprised at the growth of Corpus Christi since his departure.

Ben G. Mew Dies Following Long Illness
Benjamin G. (Ben) Mew, 69, native Corpus Christian, died at 2 a.m. today at his residence, 3165 Huisache, following a long illness. Born Dec. 22, 1879, he was the son of Mrs. And Mrs. G. K. W. Mew, pioneer residents. He was educated in the local public schools and worked for many years as pharmacist for the Joshua Smith Drug Store. He then moved to Boulder, Colo., and worked as druggist, then moved to Beeville, where he was agent for Texas Oil Co.
 

Oil Scout and Contractor
After working as oil scout in Phoenix, Ariz., for a time he returned to Corpus Christi in 1926 and joined his brother, Charles Mew, in the contracting business. Following his brother’s death in 1927, he continued operating the business and completed the contracting firms project at the Port of Corpus Christi and the area surrounding the port site. He also was dirt contractor on the bay front project. For the past two years he had devoted his time to ranching interests in Duval County. Mew was a charter member of Pioneer Firemen Co. 1. For a while he worked as a bridgeman and construction superintendent for SA & AP Railroad. He father came from England in 1875 and operated one of the first general merchandise stores, located where Thomas Model Pharmacy now stand. The family lived where Blacknall Motor Co. is now located.
 

Funeral Tomorrow
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ivis Moore Mew; one son, Ben G. Mew, Jr., and one brother, John Mew, all of Corpus Christi. Funeral services will be held at Dunne Funeral Chapel at 10 o’clock Saturday morning, with the Rev. David S. Rose, rector of the Church of  the Good Shepherd, officiating. Burial will be in Old Bayvew Cemetery

Funeral services for Benjamin G. (Ben) Mew, 69, who died yesterday at his home, 3165 Huesache following a long illness, will be held this morning at 10 o’clock at Dunne Funeral Chapel with the Rev. David S. Rose, rector of the Church of the good Shepherd, officiating. Burial will be in Old Bayview Cemetery.  Mew was born here Dec. 22, 1879, the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. K. W.
