Obituary

"The grim destroyer" has been very busy in our city recently. We are called upon to record the demise of one of our oldest city sons, Mr. William Meyers, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Meyers was born in Ohio, July 18, 1804, and was married in Covington, Ky, May 17, 18 (26?). He immigrated to Texas in 1835, and fought against the Mexican for their independence of his adopted country. He belonged to an independent company and acted as scout for Gen. Sam Houston. He was wounded in his right hand so that he never afterwards had any use of it. He was really entitled to a pension, but as his name was not on the roll of the regular army, he failed to secure one, though he made repeated efforts. He was a quite, good old man. The passersby will miss him from his couch on which during the day he was accustomed to rest his paralyzed limbs. He has learned ere this that "There is rest for the weary."
