J.E. MITCHELL ILLNESS FATAL
John Edgar Mitchell, 60, died at his home, 705 Eleventh street, following a brief illness.
Mitchell, a longshoreman, was the son of J. B. Mitchell, a widely known Texan and one of the oldest hardware merchants of this section in his time. Mitchell was born at the old Mitchell home, which was located where the Marine room of the Nueces hotel now stands. The home later was moved to the present site of the Episcopal rectory.
He suffered a stroke of apoplexy on his sixtieth birthday.
Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Suzanne Mitchell; two daughters, Miss Lucille Mitchell and Mrs. Alice Saldana; one son, Alexander Mitchell; and a sister, Mrs. Rachel D. Bowers, of Brooklyn.
No funeral arrangements have yet been completed. Maxwell P. Dunne is in charge

Funeral services for John Edgar Mitchell, 60, who died Monday at his home, 705 Eleventh street, after a brief illness, were to be held at 3:30 o’clock, this afternoon at the family home.
Mr. Mitchell, a longshoreman, was the man responsible for organization of the Longshoreman’s union here in 1926, labor leaders here said, and has taken an active interest in the welfare of his fellow workers.
He had spent his lifetime in Corpus Christi, having been born in the old Mitchell home, located on the site now occupied by the Marine room of the Nueces hotel. The home later was moved to the present location of the Episcopal rectory.
Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Suzanne Mitchell; two daughters, Miss Lucille Mitchell and Mrs. Alice Saldana; one son, Alexander Mitchell; and one sister, Mrs. Rachal D. bowers, of Brooklyn.
Burial was to be in the old Bayview cemetery under direction of Maxwell P. Dunne.
