Died in this city, Thursday a.m. Aug. 26, 1897 at ten past eleven Mrs. T. Noessel a native of Germany. Aged 83 years, 10 months and eleven days (birthday computed to be Oct 15, 1813) the Funeral will take place form the family residence at 4:00 o'clock tomorrow evening. Friends and acquaintances of the family are respectfully invited to attend. Corpus Christi, Aug. 26, 1897 source; Death notice printed on 5 X 8" black bordered folded paper. It is with sadness quotes the Caller again chronicles the death of an old Corpus Christian, Mrs. Thekla Noessel, who passed away yesterday Aug. the 26th 1897 at 10 minutes past eleven. Deceased was a native of Germany, was one of the oldest landmarks of this city, having come to Corpus Christi form New Orleans wit her husband, children, and mother in 1847 residing here ever since. Shortly after their arrival Mr. Noessel built a large hotel on the two lots north of the Caller Office, where Mr. And Mrs. Noessel conducted a popular hotel for years. The names of General Phil Sheridan and other U. S. Officers being found among those on the old register. In those days many people landed here in route to the Calif. Gold fields, fitting out their expeditions here. In later years Mr. Noessel gave up his hotel and opened up a mercantile business which he conducted up to the time of his death in 1868, erecting a short time before his death the corner building now occupied by the Caller. Mrs. Noessel, who has lived in one of her buildings on the block every since, and who outlived her three children, Mr. Felix Noessel being the last one to die—in 1887—enjoyed fairly good health until a few years ago, when old age began to tell her and she grew quite feeble, the past three months confined to her bed. She was a member of the Catholic church and a remarkably good and kind woman, having ______ of friends and admirers. The funeral took place this p.m. at 4:00 o'clock the remains being interred in the city cemetery with those of her mother, husband and two sons. Deceased leaves eleven grandchildren, via: Edward, Eugene, Claude, Perry, Vivian, and Mamie Noessel, children of Felix Noessel, deceased all present at the funeral except Edward Noessel, who is in New Orleans. Mrs. De Nike, daughter of Owen Noessel, deceased, lives at Laredo. Four grandchildren, a son and three daughters of Mrs. Gradler, deceased live in New York.
