Speculation
The stone marking the resting place of Edward Reynolds is one provided by the government for federal veterans. The stone simply notes his name and that he served with Co. H of the First U. S. Infantry. Unfortunately there are no dates for his years of service or life. There is also no indication of his native state. It is unclear who sought this stone as it is not among those listed in an 1893 article that mentions stones for veterans that had been ordered and set up under the direction of Mr. Edward Killmer who was active as the head of the local veterans group at that time. There is an Edward Reynolds "of Mas" (Massachusetts?) who is listed in the 1850 census record of Nueces County (p. 142 line 7) as one of several federal troopers stationed in Corpus Christi at the time. No age is given for this gentleman. Unfortunately the search of military records could not be conclusive as there are several soldiers with the same name who served even from the same state so archive personnel were unable to determine which of them is the Edward Reynolds buried in Old Bayview Cemetery.
