  3. Obituary

Died, at Alice, Texas, July 20, 1903, at 8 a.m., Miss Ann Staples, aged 83 years and 3 months.

In the death of Miss Staples, Nueces county loses another of its old land-marks and worthy citizens.  For many years she was a resident of Corpus Christi, moving from here about twenty-five years ago with her brother, W. M. Staples, and his family, to make her home near the old town of Collins, where her brother engaged in stock raising.  She enjoyed very good health until last February, when on Washington's birthday she met with an accident, falling and injuring one of her hips, after which she began to lose her health and strength.  Besides the brother with whom she lived, and W. W. Staples, who resided on the Nueces river, she had a brother, Jack Staples, of Staples, Texas, who survives her, the other two brothers having passed over the dark river of Death a number of years ago.  The remains of Miss Staples were brought to this city on Monday evening's Texas Mexican train by Mr. Wm. Adams, accompanied by Mrs. Halsey and Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Wright, the funeral taking place Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the Barnard residence on the bluff, the services being conducted by Rev. S. E. Chandler, of the Presbyterian church, of which she was a faithful member.
