Biography

The stone for this child is broken and badly defaced so it is difficult to get a good reading of the original text.  Careful examination of the stone and the early death records of the city reveal that the child was born July 18, 1890 and died on Aug. 9, 1890.  The early death records of the city simply list this child as "Vetters" who is 21 days old when she died on August 9, 1890 (Early Death Records page 52-3).  The gravestone further reveals that she is the daughter of "E." and "C." Vetters.  This would identify her parents as Edward and Cynthia Vetters.  Her mother, Cynthia A. Vetters, is also buried in Old Bayview beside her little infant daughter.  Cynthia was born Cynthia A. Vandervear on 20 July 1865 at Lamar, Texas and spent her childhood in Goliad County.  She married Edward Vetters on 15 May 1882 (see Nueces County Marriage Records, volume E page 187).  Cynthia died young on 17 October 1893 (Caller issue 20 October 1893 page 5 col. 3).  The father of this child is Edward Vetters who was born and raised in Nueces County.  He is the brother of Clement, Alfred, Herman, and W. C. Vetters of Corpus Christi.  His sister is Sevilla Dryer of Kingsville.  Subsequent to the death of Cynthia, Edward remarried and he was survived by this spouse when he died in June of 1936.  In his obit he is listed as 79 years old and residing on West Laurel Street in San Antonio at the time of his death.  His surviving sons include: Adolph, Frank, John and Henry of San Antonio (in 1936) and George of Houston (in 1936).  His surviving daughters are Mrs. Louis Bowman of San Antonio and Mrs. Bob Griffin of Houston (in 1936).
