1. Biography
The records at Dunne's Funeral Home indicate that Mrs. Ira Bass Walker was born in Cotulla, Texas to Jake Bass and Mary Bennett. (Mary's name at the time of her death and burial at Old Bayview Cemetery).
Ira appears with Mary Bennett in the 1910 census where she (Ira) is listed as a widow with two children, (18 year old Robert and 8 year old Mary). It appears that Robert may be her son by a previous marriage because Ira weds Elijah Walker on Feb. 7, 1900 before Rev. R. E. Brown (Nueces County Marriage Records, Vol. F. P. 521) In that record she is listed as Mrs. Ira Cook (presumably divorced or widowed).
At the time of her death on Oct. 30, 1936, Ira resided at 1212 Chipito near the cemetery in which she would be buried. Her husband, Elijah Walker also is interred in Old Bayview Cemetery, as well as Ira's mother- Mary Bennett. In the 1910 census, Ira does note that she has had four children, of which 2 are already deceased. The may be buried also in Old Bayview.
