James Edward Weymouth

Death of a Well Known Citizen and Druggist

Died, in Flatonia, Texas, Tuesday, May 30, 1899, at 6 p.m., of locomotor ataxia, JAMES EDWARD WEYMOUTH, a native of New Orleans, aged 58 years.

Again The Caller announces the death of another old and highly esteemed citizen, one whose death, though, had been expected for a long time and who was a patient sufferer for two years.

Mr. Weymouth came to Corpus Christi in the early part of 1875 from New Orleans to accept the position of druggist with Brice Vineyard, who died a few years later.  After Mr. Vineyard's death, Mr. Weymouth opened a drug store of his own, which he continued for several years, when his health commenced to fail, and he finally became an invalid, his condition growing worse until he died, suffering about eight years.  His devoted and loving wife, it will be remembered, died in this city one year ago this month – June 7, 1898.  On the 22d of last September, Mr. Weymouth was taken to Flatonia, where his eldest son is agent for the Aransas Pass railroad, in hopes that the change would do him good.  Last week his son, John, of this city, and his daughter, Miss Edith, attending the University of Austin, were notified of his dying condition, and they hastened to his bedside.  The remains, accompanied by the two sons and daughter, reached this city Wednesday night, the funeral taking place yesterday at 9:30 o'clock from the Episcopal Church, the funeral being under the auspices of the Knights of Honor and Knights and Ladies of Honor, of which orders he was a member.  Deceased leaves one sister, Mrs. Flora Helwig, of New Orleans.  The afflicted family have the sympathies of a host of friends.
