Biography
Ann Hill was born about 1840 in Ireland and came to America where she met and married Green Berry Williams on July 26, 1857 (Nueces County Marriage Records, Vol. B, p. 177). They settled in Corpus Christi to raise a family. G. B. was a carpenter and builder while Annie kept house. Their sons Edward and Wm. H. both worked for the local newspapers of the time. Edward was a printer and Wm. H. served even on the early Corpus Christi Caller. Wm. H. Williams and his wife are also buried with his parents in Old Bayview Cemetery. G. B. and Ann's daughter Aphra Elizabeth married D. M. Burney, but died young and was laid to rest in the old cemetery also. Annie died at 53 years old on June 16, 1894. The early death records of the county at the Vital Statistics Office (p. 80, #1114) list "apoplexy" as the cause of Ann's death. In the nineteenth century that term usually designated some type of stroke.
