Biography

Green Berry Williams was born about 1833 in North Carolina and married Ann Hill of Ireland on July 26, 1857 in Nueces County (Marriage Records, vol. B. p. 177).  The 1880 census of Nueces County indicates that he was a builder and carpenter by trade.  His sons Edward and Wm. H. were both involved with early newspapers.  Both were printers, and Wm. H. began as a route carrier for the Caller before working as a printer and then in editorial work and publication (see his obit on the Old Bayview Cemetery website).  Green and Ann's daughter, Aphra Elizabeth married D. M. Burney but died quite young.  Aphra and Wm. H. (along with his wife) are buried in Old Bayview along with their parents.  Ann died on June 16, 1894 and Green Berry died only a little more than a month later on August 1, 1894.
