Biography

This young child, listed as born 10 November 1862 and died 16 October 1863) was the son of John and Fannie Woessner. He was born during the Civil War and possibly the difficulties of those times contributed to his early death. Henry's dad was John Woessner who was born ip Wurtemberg, Germany 23 June 1839 and traveled to south Texas via Indianola along with other members of the family when he was still a youth. John Woessner was very active as a merchant and banker in the Corpus Christi area until his untimely death on 10 September 1884 at only 46 years old. Henry's mother was Fannie Blanche White who married John Woessner 20 July 1861 (Nueces County Marr. Records, Vol. B misc., page 459). Subsequent to her husband's death, Fannie continued to reside in Corpus Christi until her death 11 February 1892. She was survived by daughters Mrs. D. McNeill Turner, Miss Blanche and Fannie Woessner of Corpus Christi, and Mrs. E. B. Matlock (Ella) of St. Louis. She also left two sons—Hon. John Woessner who was U. S. consul at Saltillo and Mr. Walter Woessner of Corpus Christi. Little Henry was probably named partly for his uncle, Charles Henry Woessner, active in south Texas as an alderman of Corpus Christi and a merchant along with his brother John. Charles Henry also is buried in Old Bayview along with his parents, brothers John and J. Martin, and nephews such as little Henry Woessner.
