Obituary

Died, in Sabinal, Texas, Sunday, Dec. 10, 1899, at 4:30 a.m., JOHN H. WRIGHT, aged 31 years, 9 months and 4 days.

The news of the death of Mr. Wright was received by his numerous friends and acquaintances in this county last Sunday with much sorrow.  They were in hopes that his health might be benefited by his visit to the canyons, where he went from Alice last May, but alas! the dreaded consumption had gotten such a hold on him that it could not be checked.  Deceased, who was the son of Mr. George Wright, was born near Nuecestown.  At the time of his death he was a resident of Alice, where he had been the agent of the Alice & Brownsville stage line for Capt. Beynon for four years, also clerk for Merchant George Hobbs, afterward going into the commission business.  In 1891 he married Miss Rachel Littig, of Corpus Christi.  Mr. Wright was very popular and a man of few faults.  His remains were brought to Corpus Christi last Monday on the Aransas Pass train, accompanied by his devoted wife, his brother, Erwin, and Mrs. Littig; also, Mr. Felix Hobbs and a committee of three Knights of Pythias from the Alice Lodge, who went to San Antonio to meet the remains.  The funeral, which took place Tuesday at 10 o’clock from the residence of Mrs. Littig on the Bluff, was conducted by the Knights of Pythias, of which order he was an honored member, the services being conducted at the house by Rev. A. J. Holworthy, of the Episcopal Church, and at the grave by him and the worthy Knights, that of the K. P’s being unusually impressive and beautiful.  The handsome flowers made into crosses, anchors, etc., for this funeral were beautiful indeed.
