Obituaries

Mrs. Wright, Nuecestown Native, Dies

Mrs. Rachel Littig Wright, native of Old Nuecestown, died at 4 a.m., today at her home 1014 1/2 Furman. She would have been 84 years of age on Sept. 9.  Born on Rancho del Esperanza, near Nuecestown, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Littig. Her father came here form Baltimore and her mother from South Wales. They moved to Corpus Christi when the daughter was 10 years of age. She was married in 1891 to the late John H. Wright of Alice and lived there until his death in 1899, when she came back to live in Corpus Christi for the remainder of her life. Mrs. Wright was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd and formerly was very active in church work.  Surviving are five cousins, Mrs. T. N. Bailey, E. L. Benyon and Mrs. E. L. Alexander of San Antonio, Mrs. Maggie McNeill and Mrs. Rosa Newbury of Alice. Cage-Mills Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Services have tentatively been set for Wednesday afternoon.

Mrs. Rachel Wright

Mrs. Rachel Littig Wright died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Devine, 1014 1/2 Furman, with whom she had lived for 25 years, at 4 a.m. yesterday. She was a native of Old Nueces town and would have been 84 years of age on Sept. 9. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Cage-Mills Chapel. The Rev. ______, rector of the Church of the Good Shepard, will officiate. Burial will be in Old Bayview Cemetery.  Mrs. Wright was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Littig and was born on Rancho del Esperanza, near Nuecestown. She was married in 1891 to the late John H. Wright of Alice and lived there until his death in 1899.  Surviving are five cousins, Mrs. T. N. Bailey, E. L. Benyon and Mrs. E. L. Alexander of San Antonio, Mrs. Maggie McNeill and Mrs. Rosa Newbury of Alice.  Pallbearers will be R. H. Heath, Howell Ward, Jamin Gordon, Burton Dunn, Benny Kempe and Felix Hobbs. Cage-Mills Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
