John Dix House

John Dix House

"The House itself may have been standing when General Taylor came to Corpus Christi in 1845, but it is definitely known to have been standing in 1850.  Judge John Dix occupied the  house during the Civil War.  It was located o the bay next to the 1,000-foot long Taylor Street fishing pier.

An Irishman named Jack Ennis bought the house and built the Seaside Pavilion, a conspicuously beautiful structure standing over the water in the bay.  Ennis also turned the Dix House into the Sea  side Hotel. Elegant carriages delivered tourists to the hotel that overlooked graceful sloops and schooners.  The Seaside Hotel quickly became a favorite of Corpus Christi visitors."
